MICHAEL STOLZER

Over the past 25 years Michael Stolzer’s work has been exhibited internationally in galleries and museums . He has been honored with awards from The Bergen Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, and The National Arts Club, among others. He began studying art at Brooklyn College in an environment with artists such as Phillip Pearlstein, LeeBontecou, and Lucas Samaras. He continued his education, focusing on figurative sculpture, at The Brooklyn Museum Art School where he was awarded a full scholarship, as well as at The National Academy of Design.

In 1988 his talents were enlisted by Yoko Ono to assist her in producing bronze works for an exhibition at the Whitney Museum, and later, for the Smithsonian, Venice Biennial, and Mary Boone Gallery, in New York. Ms. Ono also hired Stolzer for a sculpted portrait of her late husband, John Lennon, as well as to interpret Lennon’s drawings and recreate them in bronze.

Stolzer also worked with the late pop artist, Keith Haring, introducing him to the technique of sgraffito and the possibilities of bronze casting. Stolzer assisted Haring with what was to be the final series of work in that artists life, and oversaw the casting of the finished pieces in 1990, after Haring’s death.

Stolzer’s paintings, drawings, and sculptures can currently be seen at Danette Koke Fine Arts in New York City, Louis Stern Fine Arts in Los Angeles , Gallerie Camino Real in Boca Raton, American Art in Carmel, and Gallerie VYP in Buenos Aires, as well as in private collections here and abroad.

Michael Stolzer presently lives and works in New York City.
